In 1984 & 1985 the new Front Wheel Drive Cavalier MK2 outsold the Ford Sierra for the first time. it was always a strong seller and was another piece of essential street furniture for decades despite losing ground to the Sierra and its successor the Mondeo in later years.
This version of the Cavalier was the first car I owned. I bought it brand new at the main dealer in Luton and sold it to a retired couple seven years later when the rear wheel arches showed signs of rust. What a mistake! Another seven years later, I was driving home from ordering my third car and saw the Cavalier cross my path at a T-junction with the same retired couple onboard.
