We Welcome a CONCOURSE FORD ESCORT RS 2000 Mk6 to Great British Car Journey
Some cars are made lucky and this is one of them. Chris Machin bought this car in 2007 and as the years passed, he lavished huge amounts of time, money and effort to restore it to concourse condition that belies the fact that he was the car’s sixth owner and that it has now covered well over 100,000 miles. Great British Car Journey is extremely grateful to Chris’s sister Nichola who has donated the car to the collection so that we can keep it in the same amazing state as unfortunately Chris passed away in 2025.
The idea of car enthusiasts competing in a contest to see who has the most pristine, original car is well over a century old. Almost all marque specific car clubs hold “Concourse D’Elegance“ events and it is not surprising that Chris’s car is a multiple event winner and almost certainly the most original and cleanest example of this model.
By the 1990s Ford was well down the road of planning its Escort replacement, the Focus, so launched in 1991, this was to be the final Escort to sport a 2 litre, 16 valve engine and the legendary RS badge.
This was enough to allow it to hit 60mph in a whisker over 8 seconds and on to a top speed just shy of 130mph. Body mouldings, Recaro seats and a dash that lit up with an orange glow all added to the RS treatment under the bonnet. Only 6000 of these cars were made between 1991 and 1996 and survivors in good condition, let alone looking like this one, are now very rare.
Thanks to Chris and Nichola, this car is now officially retired from active service, but we undertake to keep it pristine, run it on our private roads occasionally and honour the person who enabled it to become an important part of Ford RS history.
