Family & Child Friendly Attraction
We are a very different type of car museum and our aim is to provide a nostalgic journey through history highlighted by all the classic cars from your past. We know how important it is to keep the children entertained too, so we’ve worked hard to make sure we have something to interest everyone in the family. We were very proud to be finalists in the Muddy Awards 2024 for the Best Family Attraction confirming our position as one of the top indoor museums for kids in the Peak District.
New Childrens' Activities for 2025
These new attractios are based at our Derwent Wire Works site and an ideal extra activity for children when you visit our museum but they can also be visited independently if you you just want to find something fun that your children will love
Mini Land Rover Adventure
Our Mini Land Rover Adventure is the chance for young children to get behind the wheel of one of our very cool electric Mini Land Rovers.
Licensed by Jaguar Land Rover, these are very scaled down versions of the real thing suitable for children aged 4 to 11.
Hot Wheels Riverside Raceway
Our Riverside Raceway is your chance to race Hot Wheels cars down a 100 foot long banked track
Our raceway enables two hot wheels cars to race one another side by side achieving scale speeds of over 200 miles per hour

Childrens' Interactive Guide
Our interactive museum has a special tour created just for the kids which allows them to get involved with the attraction and take part in quizzes, build their own cars, puzzles and more.
Cars from Film & TV
We have got lots of interesting cars from the world of Film and Television. As well as other vehicles that will interest the kids from the Delorean to a Formula 1 car and even an Amphibious car.
Classic Car Rides for Kids
We have put together a small collection of cars that we know children will enjoy a ride in and created a special voucher that you can give as a present to anybody under 16 and old enough not to need a booster seat that you think would enjoy a ride in one of these iconic cars.
These rides do need pre-booking so please browse and book your ride before your visit to avoid disappointment if you want to bring your own children
Please note on some days in the school holidays we do offer shorter £10 rides that can only be booked on the day – please check latest news & social media for availability
Childrens' Number Plate Hunt
During the school holidays we also run a find the number plates competition where the kids search for specific number plates around the museum in a fun treasure hunt style activity and every participant gets to win a prize at the end of the tour.
Again do please check we are running this activity before you visit as it is limited to the school holidays
New Junior Driving Experience for 2025
We now have driving experiences for kids who want to drive a classic car but are not yet old enough to get a driving license
Children must be a minimum of 4ft 8” tall (the average height of a 10 year old)
They will drive an Automatic Mini with dual controls accompanied by a CRB checked and qualified instructor on a fenced off area of our private road network
Just buy a voucher and you can then book a slot on any of the special Junior Drive Days . The experience includes free museum entrance for your child too.
